A house is more than just for the people living there, it is for your pets too. For many of us, our pets are as much a part of a family as our closest loved ones and the house is as much their home as it is ours. When you move house, pets cannot get left behind, but they can still complicate the move. There are a number of ways you can make moving house with pets less stressful.
Make use of family or friends
It might be easier to get somebody to look after your pet on moving day. If you are able to get someone or somewhere to take the pet off your hands all together then this can be a huge help. Perhaps you have a family member or friend that wouldn’t mind taking in your pet for a few hours or a day while you concentrate on the move.
Pets can get extremely nervous and anxious when there is a lot of change. Understanding that you are about to put them through a change into completely new surroundings, you should aim to disturb them as little as possible. By packing early, the changes can be less intimidating as opposed to everything on one or two days.
Don’t box them in
If you decide to take your pets with you on the move then how you handle them is very important. Most pets are extremely claustrophobic so bare this in mind with how you transport them. Don’t put your pets in a dark box this will only terrify them. Try and buy a suitable cage that is spacious and has lots of access to natural light and air holes.
There are lots of steps and measures you can take to make moving house easier. Moving homes is already inherently stressful and complicated so you want to try and do as much as you can to minimise the complications.
