Moving house is never a simple process, with everything to sort whilst balancing work, children, and then of course packing. Here at AR Removals, we completely understand just how stressful a move can be, that’s why we’re always on the look out to make the process much simpler for our customers. This week, we’ve decided to concentrate on packing fragile items and giving you some top tips to ensure that your belongings are protected during the move, giving you one less thing to worry about.
Plates
Plates are one of the most common fragile items which movers will encounter. So, what are the do’s and don’ts when packing plates? Firstly, the box should be the smallest box which can fit the plates in. Then, get a sheet of packing paper, and place it on the table. Put down the first place (usually starting with the biggest first – working your way up to the smaller ones). Folding the edges of the packing paper around the plates to create a present like wrapping on each plate. Then placing all the plates in the box, if there are any gaps in the box, do not use this for another plate, use crumpled packing paper to fill them. Then close and label the box.
Glasses, Cups and Bowls
Following a similar format as that of plates – ensuring that they’re individually wrapped in packing paper and using a small box, which the glasses, cups and bowls fit in. So, first of all, layer the box with packing paper, this is done to cushion the edges. Towering each individual item (towering glasses, or cups etc.) then wrap each tower in packing paper. Again, filling any gaps within the box with packing paper. Closing the box and labelling.
Framed Pictures and Mirrors
Firstly, these items should be wrapped three times in the shape of a six-pointed star. This will ensure that the glass will not shift from the frame and it will avoid any breakage. Ensuring that the box you will pack these items in fits the pictures and mirrors. Again, ensuring that they are packed similarly to presents. And again, fill any gaps with paper.
